Austin Children's Shelter

Mission

When children are removed from their homes due to life-threatening abuse or neglect, a temporary home must be found for them until more permanent plans are made. The Austin Children’s Shelter is a safe haven for children in crisis, and is the only shelter in Travis County for children ages birth to 17 years of age.

Partnership Focus

LHC is committed to making a difference in the lives of these children who need extra love and attention. The primary way we nurture the children is by taking them on a social outing such as a baseball game, as well as fitness outings which show the kids that exercise can be fun. All of these events allow us to demonstrate God’s love and care for them, which is something they seldom experience. Also, as need arises, we organize teams that take care of various service projects at the facility.

Also, there are always opportunities to volunteer directly at ACS on a regular basis by becoming a “Direct Services Volunteer.” This role assists the ACS staff with various day-to-day responsibilities with the children, and is a tremendous help to the staff.

Donations & Needs

ACS has many needs that support the day-to-day operations of the shelter, as well as seasonal needs. All donations can be dropped off directly at ACS’s administration office during normal business hours.

We have an outreach with the children at ACS every other month, and you can sign up on an individual basis or as a LifeGroup. Contact the leaders below for details of upcoming outreaches. (Note: All volunteers must be a high school graduate or older).
